GOVERNMENT will rehabilitate all provincial stadiums across Zambia through its sport infrastructure development programme.

Sports Minister, Chishimba Kambwili said in a statement that Government wanted to continue refurbishing provincial stadiums as a way of increasing access to sports facilities to all sportsmen and women in Zambia.

Kambwili said the Patriotic Front (PF) Government’s policy on sport was to see sports development across the country especially in rural areas.

He said Government would therefore put up sporting infrastructure in different parts of the country to promote sport activities across Zambia.

The minister also reiterated Government’s commitment to construct state-of-art stadiums in Zambia’s tourist capital, Livingstone and Mongu.

“The PF Government’s policy on sport is to see sports development across the country, especially in rural areas. It is for this reason that we are putting up sporting infrastructure in different parts of the country. Government is going to construct ultra-modern stadia in Livingstone and Mongu.

“I am also glad to inform you that through the sport infrastructure programme, the rehabilitation of provincial stadia has continued. All this is with the aim to increase access to sports facilities for the sportsmen and women,” he said.

Kambwili said under the leadership of President Michael Sata, Government would also do everything possible to create a conducive environment where the private sector and other stakeholders would develop sport.

He, however, said due to the high demand on the national treasury, Government could not accomplish the task of developing sport alone but that the private sector needed to come on board and participate in this initiative.
