BESTON Chambeshi and Stone Chibwe have paid tribute to the late veteran coach Boniface Simutowe, who will be put to rest tomorrow.
Simutowe, 65 died on Tuesday at Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital in Lusaka after an illness.
Chambeshi said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that he had lost a mentor.
“We have lost a legend he coached me as a player and worked with him at under 23 in 2004 and he was my mentor i will miss the great man,” Chambeshi said.
Chibwe, who played with Simutowe at the national team, said that he was saddened to lose a friend and fellow FAZ life member.
“It is a very day we are going to miss him. He was a very good colleague both on and off the pitch. He did a lot for Zambian football and we are going to miss him,” he said.
Meanwhile, Simutowe’s younger brother, Levy, said in an interview yesterday that the
late Zambia coach will be buried at Lusaka’s Leopards Hill Memorial Park.
“The burial for my brother has been set for Friday (tomorrow) at the Memorial Park and the procession will start in the morning but we are yet to decide where the church service will be held,” Levy said.
Simutowe is credited to be one of the local coaches that revived the national team following the Gabon Air disaster that claimed the entire team and officials in 1993.
He served on the technical bench together with Lewis Shambulo, Dean Mwiinde and Dickson Makwaza.
