PATRIOTIC Front (PF) presidential candidate Edgar Lungu has denounced violence during his campaigns and called on law-enforcement agencies to arrest anyone found engaging in the vice.
Mr Lungu has instructed all members countrywide to desist from engaging in any acts of violence as it is a recipe for voter apathy.
Mr Lungu said while there were few members who were violent by nature, his party would ensure that those found wanting were dealt with because he wanted these elections to be different from previous ones by recording minimal cases of violence.
PF campaign manager Harry Kalaba said Mr Lungu was a calm man who did not tolerate violence, saying the instructions issued to all party officials and members should be taken seriously and adhered to.
He said in an interview that Mr Lungu wanted to win the election cleanly without engaging in any form of violence and other activities that might disadvantage the opposition political parties taking part in the election.
Mr Kalaba said sentiments by the MMD that Mr Lungu was tolerating violence in the party were misplaced and advised the opposition party to focus on its own problems.
Meanwhile, Mr Kalaba said people in Luapula Province had pledged to vote for the PF because they had seen the massive developments the ruling party had taken to the area in the three years it had been in power.
“They have seen that the PF has constructed the Mansa-Luwingu Road which has never been there since independence, the building of schools and clinics as well as the provision of ambulances in almost all the clinics has made people here decide not to vote for another party,” he said.
