By JAMES KUNDA –
CONSTRUCTION of Luansobe boarding school has commenced in Masaiti at a cost of K50 million.
Masaiti District Commissioner Joseph Mwambana said in an interview yesterday that so far, 30 per cent of construction work had been done on the institution which would provide co-education from Grades eight to twelve.
Mr Mwambana said once completed, the school would accommodate 1,500 pupils and thus, the institution will be furnished with the necessary amenities to carter for the pupils.
“So far, construction is on course and the contractor is performing according to expectations, so we expect that the school will be ready for commissioning at the end of this year,” he said.
Mr Mwambana said the project also included the construction of fifteen staff houses to accommodate the teachers who will be teaching at the institution.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwambana said construction of a five kilometre road between Masaiti District Council and Fipashi had been completed at a cost of K50,000.
This was done by the Rural Roads Unit to ease the movement of goods and people, including access to facilities such as schools and health posts.
“Using the Constituency Development Fund for 2013, we procured earth moving equipment at a cost of K2.2 million to open up far flung areas so as to ease the mobility of our people,” he said.
Mr Mwambana added that Government had also constructed a rural health centre in Katonte at a cost of K150,000 to benefit 13,000 residents in Masaiti.
