By SYLVESTER MWALE –
THE Patriotic Front (PF) campaign team says it is shameful that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is declaring himself winner of the presidential elections way before they are held.
Mr Hichilema is reported to have claimed during a radio programme that he had already won the January 20 presidential elections.

But PF Campaign team spokesperson Harry Kalaba said it is shameful that the UPND leader could make such a wild and shallow statement that has the ability to cause confusion at a critical time like now.
“Let me be clear, the elections will be held on 20th January 2015 on an open platform and not on radio chat shows where Mr Hichilema thinks elections are won,” said Mr Kalaba who is also Foreign Affairs Minister.
“We know he is basing his highly questionable popularity on some media houses’ incredible polls that are being conducted without any scientific verification.”
He said PF candidate was headed for victory but he was a principled man and matured politician who could not issue empty declarations of victory ahead of the presidential elections.
Mr Kalaba said the PF was relying on credible corporate and internal polls that were giving it reasonable satisfaction that the party was headed for a comfortable win.
As facilitators of the elections, the PF would act with caution not to cause any panic that may undermine the electoral process, Mr Kalaba added.
We urge Mr Hichilema to act responsibly as well, so that people were allowed to express their free will in 10 days’ time.
He urged people to ignore what he termed Mr Hichilema’s empty claims and dismiss them with the contempt they deserve.
