THREE people have been detained in connection with the murder of a taxi driver who was beaten to death after he attempted to rescue a woman from being beaten by her boyfriend.
John Chisale of 3207 Chimwemwe Township died on Monday at Kitwe Central Hospital after sustaining injuries when he tried to stop a neighbour from beating his girlfriend.
Mr Chisale 24 had gone to the neigbours house to stop the fight but two men descended on him beating him with fists and an iron bar.
Copperbelt police chief Joyce Kasosa named those detained as Grace Chilengwa 21 of 3208 Chimwemwe Township and  Michael Bango 32.
The other suspect is Henry Simugala 30 of C308 Chipata Township.
Ms Kasosa however, said the three murder suspects have not yet been charged.
Meanwhile, the family of Mr Chisale said the postmortem report indicated that he died from burns and internal injuries.
Mr Chisale’s mother, Jane Kapala said her son was discovered with burns on his back with peeled skin and blood stains all over the body.
She said it was believed that hot water was poured on him after the beating.
Mr Chisale has since been buried.
The incident incensed residents who smashed windows and partially burnt the house where the fight took place.
