By CHATULA  KANGALI –

A Lusaka-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) is seeking funds to build a school for circumstantial children and a skills center at the Lusaka Central Prison.
Mother of Millions Foundation is looking for resources and funds to build a school for children whose mothers are in prison and a skills training center for women prisoners at the cost of K500,000 at the Lusaka Central Prisons.
Chief executive officer Faith Kalungia said the NGO had since launched a campaign called, ‘Buy a brick and build a school in prison’.
She said in an interview that the Ministry of Home Affairs had given the NGO land within the prison and a go ahead to build a school.
“Land has already been given to us by the Ministry of Home Affairs; we are currently raising funds and resources to start the construction works. Last week, we launched the buy a brick and build a prison school campaign. We are not asking for a lot of money but asking members of the public to buy a brick or give us what they can for constructing a school,” she said.
Ms Kalungia added that her NGO was currently running a class at the central prisons which accommodated children from zero to six years,
She said her organisation came up with the idea of starting classes at the prison after noticing that the children whose mothers were prisoners were denied the right to education.
She, however, appealed to stakeholders and members of the public to come on board in helping educate circumstantial children and empowering mothers in prisons.
“Apart from helping children in prisons, Mother of Millions Foundation is also assisting the under privileged in society. We have been repatriating patients at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. There are a number of patients from far places who do not have transport. We partnered with UTH to assist them with transport money, food and clothing,” she said.
