By JAMES KUNDA –
CHINESE vice-president Li Yuanchao has pledged to work closely with his Zambian counterpart Inonge Wina, to enhance economic ties between the two countries.
Mr Li said he was looking forward to working with Ms Wina to bring the friendly cooperation between Zambia and China to a new high.
This is contained in a congratulatory letter by Mr Li to Ms Wina on her recent appointment as Zambian Vice-President.
“I learnt with great pleasure the news of your assuming the office of the vice-president of the Republic of Zambia and would like to extend to your honour, my sincere congratulations,” he said.
Mr Li said there was a deep and traditional friendship between China and Zambia emanating from the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 50 years ago.
This has translated into mutual political trust which has been deepening constantly leading to fruitful results from beneficial cooperation in various sectors of the economy, trade, culture, humanity and international affairs.
“I visited Zambia last June, had in-depth exchange of views with Zambian leaders on the development of friendly cooperation between our two countries and ruling parties, and reached a series of important consensus.
“I look forward to working with you to bring the friendly cooperation between our two countries to a new high,” Mr Li told Ms Wina yesterday.
