high court 628x350By SYLVIA MWEETWA –

A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD boy yesterday narrated how his mother axed his father following a misunderstanding.
The boy told Kabwe High Court Judge-in-Charge Mwiinde Siavwapa that his mother picked an axe and hacked his father in the head following a fight and later watched him walk out of the house while bleeding.
Chanda Mwango is accused of murdering her husband, Morris Mukanga Simangolwa, on August 2, 2010 in Mkushi.
The boy told the court that on the fateful evening, his father arrived home but did not find his mother and asked on three occasions if the children had eaten their supper but they had not.
He said his father left but returned drunk later and queried his wife over her failure to prepare food.
A fight ensued and that the boy saw the mother leave the bedroom and return with an axe which she used to strike Mr Simangolwa in the head and back.
The boy said he was able to see what was going on because there was moonlight and that after he was struck, his father left while bleeding and later the following morning he learnt that he had died.
He said in the morning he saw blood in the bedroom and under the bed and there was a blood trail towards the roadside, a short distance from the house.
Mr Simangolwa’s brother, Innocent Musialela, said he attended the postmortem conducted on the deceased and the doctors said the cause of death was head injuries which resulted into bleeding.
Mr Musialela said that he observed two cuts on the head of Mr Simangolwa and that prior to his death, he was healthy and that he was not sick.
Trial continues.
