THE immigration department in Kitwe has arrested and deported 98 prohibited immigrants.
The Kitwe immigration office on Wednesday, 4 February, 2015 deported 54 Tanzanians, 39 Congolese and one Ugandan.
They were among the 114 persons detained in Kitwe during an operation conducted by the immigration department in conjunction with other security wings on January 30 and 31, this year.
Immigration department public relations officer Namati Nshinka confirmed the development in a statement released in Lusaka yesterday.
In a related development, Lusaka regional immigration office on Thursday effected a deportation of a Congolese ex-convict.  The Congolese was deported after completing his prison sentence for concealing his true identity.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate Court in Chipata on Thursday convicted and sentenced eight Malawians to fines ranging from K200 to K450 for unlawful stay.
In Kasama, the Magistrate Court convicted a Burundese and fined him K 3,000 for unlawful entry.
In Nakonde the Immigration department arrested eight foreigners for unlawful entry.
In Chipata the department arrested six Malawians for unlawful entry while in Chama two Malawians were also arrested for unlawful entry.
Three Zimbabweans were arrested in Chirundu for unlawful stay.
In Lusaka at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Wednesday, two Indians were arrested for using visas suspected to have been forged. Their hosts in Zambia an Indian and a Zambian were also detained to assist with investigations.
