THIEVES on Friday night broke into Budget Stores in Kabwe and got away with K40, 000 cash.
The thieves that gained entry to the store through the roof removed iron sheets and broke the safe where the money was kept.
Outgoing Central Province Police Chief Standwell Lungu who confirmed the development yesterday said K40,000 was stolen and that investigations have since commenced to bring the culprits to book.
Mr Lungu said the police suspect that the theft was an inside job and had interviewed staff at Budget Stores to help with the investigations.
He explained that nothing else was stolen apart from the money and that his officers were working round the clock to find those linked to the theft.
“As police we suspect this theft to be an inside job, someone knew the set up of the store and other security lapses but we will get to the bottom of the matter,” he said.
He cautioned business firms against keeping huge sums of money in their shops as this attracted cases of robberies.
In another development, three people believed to be from one family died in a head-on collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a foreign Truck in Kabwe yesterday around 09:00 hours.
Mr Lungu confirmed the accident stating that a lady driver identified as Tigers Shupikai who was driving a Toyota Corolla died on arrival at Kabwe General Hospital.
He said the driver of a foreign Truck identified as Kenneth Mwanza bolted the accident scene while a forth passenger from the Corolla was battling for life at the same hospital.
And in Kapiri Mposhi, two pedestrians died on the spot after being hit by a foreign truck.
