GOVERNMENT and stakeholders have successfully trained 577 youths in entrepreneurship skills for them to contribute to job creation, economic growth and development.
The youths were successfully trained under a Ministry of Gender, Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), UNICEF and Barclays programme aimed at making youths viable by training them to venture in businesses.
DEC Commissioner Alita Mbahwe said the Building Young Future Project was targeted to train 600 GBV survivors resulting from substance and drug abuse among others from three Eastern, Southern and Western provinces.
Ms Mbahwe said 66 beneficiaries were able to access start up loans and have since ventured into barber shops, salons, restaurants and poultry businesses among other ventures contributing to employment and growth.
Ms Mbahwe who was represented by her deputy Lotti Mpundu in checking on the project and training at the Mulelemwana Skills Training Centre in Lusaka yesterday said 34 beneficiaries had completed paying back the loans.
