By SANDRA MWILA –
CHARLES Mulala was yesterday elected Midlands Netball Association (MINA) president during the annual general meeting held at the Napsa Sport Complex in Lusaka.
Mulala, who used to be MINA vice president, beat incumbent Felix Mkandwire after polling 12 votes against nine to earn a five-year term of office.
Arnold Nayanga of Prisons Leopards is the new vice president after he got 13 votes to beat his rivals, David Chisanga and Pengani Kanyika, who could only manage four votes each.
Lennox Kapila of Nkwazi continues as MINA general secretary after going through unopposed and will be assisted by Lydia Nanyangwe of Lusaka City Council, who until her election was fixtures secretary.
Nanyangwe got an overwhelming 15 votes against six for David Chisanga while the new treasurer is Malekam Jere who beat Hildani Imasiku after getting 16 votes against the latter’s four.
Innocent Lukonde took over as fixture secretary after going through unopposed while committee members are Patrick Kalombe and Rose Nambeya, both of Nkwazi, and Rachael Kunda from Buffaloes.
Meanwhile, Mulala thanked voters for having confidence in him and promised to work hard.
“I am humbled by the confidence entrusted in me and I promise to work hard to see to it that the game of netball continues to grow. And my first task will be to ensure that more umpires are trained to officiate games and seek for more sponsorship,” he said.
