A FORTY-YEAR-OLD cyclist has died after he was hit by a vehicle in Kitwe while cycling on the Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway.
Copperbelt Police Chief Joyce Kasosa confirmed the accident which happened on Saturday around 11:40 hours at Chamboli junction.
Ms Kasosa named the cyclist as John Msimuko of MH14 Hybrid Farm in Luela area of Kitwe.
She said the man was hit by a Toyota Carina registration ACJ 7204, which was being driven by Humphrey Mulenga, 40, of L114, Chamboli.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Msimuko sustained head injuries and bleeding from the mouth and nose and died on the spot.
She said the victim was cycling when suddenly, the vehicle which had no right of way, cut in and ran over him.
Meanwhile, police in Kabwe are holding two ex-convicts and another person in connection with a spate of breaking-ins and thefts which have rocked various townships in the district in the past two months.
The three, who were apprehended following a tip off from the public, are believed to be behind the breaking-ins in which several families had their household goods stolen.
Central Province Deputy Police Chief Edwin Bwanga, who confirmed the development yesterday, said the two ex-convicts and another person have been held to assist with investigations.
Mr Bwanga said police have since recovered several electrical items worth thousands of Kwacha and among the items recovered are television sets, radios, DVD players, mobile phones, and casino game machines.
He asked members of the public from Highridge, Poleni, town area and other areas that had their homes broken into to check with the police and assist identify the items and suspects.
