Four nabbed for cultivating cannabis

FOUR people among them two juveniles have been arrested for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis, on the Copperbelt Province.
Shadreck Chimwanga 33, of Mokambo border in Mufulira was arrested and jointly charged with a 15-year-old boy of the same area for cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 82 kilogrammes.
In a related incident, a 16-year-old boy of Mokambo was arrested for trafficking in 4 kilogrammes of cannabis while Moses Kansele 21, of Kamatipa Township in Kitwe was apprehended for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 38 kilogrammes.
Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) public relations officer Theresa Katongo said in a statement that the four were among the more thirty people arrested countrywide for similar offences.
In Western Province, DEC arrested Chiwesa Kazika 32, of Milumbwe area in Luampa District for the same offence involving 58.44 kilogrammes of cannabis while Musole Kandada 46, a peasant farmer of the same area was apprehended for trafficking in 3.64 kilogrammes of the contraband.
Ms Katongo said all the suspects would appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, DEC through its anti-money laundering investigations unit has arrested a system analyst at the Lusaka City Council (LCC), for money laundering activities involving over K1, 000.
Martin Bwalya 44, of house number 2195, off Kazembe Road in Matero Township, was been arrested for theft by servant, fraudulent false accounting and unauthorised interference with data contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Between June 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown, Mr Bwalya stole money amounting to K1, 588.08, property LCC.
Mr Bwalya engaged in an act of fraudulent false accounting in his capacity as payroll administer where he inserted an account number for a known bank against a deceased employees’ name for the council, purporting to show the deceased’s account received money when in fact not.
The suspect did interfere with data on LCC payroll system fraudulently to suit himself without authority.
