A MAN believed to have been poaching at a ranch in Kitwe, has been shot dead.
The man, in his 50s, was gunned down by guards for suspected poaching after he was spotted inside the ranch at night.
Copperbelt Police Chief Joyce Kasosa said the man was gunned down on Monday around 00:01 at Greystone Ranch owned by Michael Fisher, a Briton.
Ms Kasosa said the man was dressed in a green Zambia Police combat top and was found with three live bullets for a shotgun.
She said the man was with other suspects who escaped with the fire arm they were using to poach animals.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Fisher reported the shooting incident to the Police and when officers visited the scene, they found the body with seven bullet wounds on the chest.
“After searching him, three live bullets of a shot-gun were found on him, a head lamp on the head with its battery and a knife,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said the body was taken to Kitwe Central Hospital awaiting identification and postmortem.
A 73-year-old man of Luanshya has been killed by unknown people in strange circumstances.
The elderly man identified as Safe Mwenya was found with bruises on his private parts and a swollen forehead yesterday morning.
Copperbelt Ms Kasosa confirmed the incident that happened between VillageTwo and the Orphans Community School in Kafubu block area on Monday night.
Ms Kasosa said the man was from Chiti Village in the same area.
“The case was reported to us by Sara Banda of the same area. The body of the deceased is currently lying at Thomson Hospital,” she said.
No arrest has been made.
Meanwhile, a man of Nsama District has been admitted to hospital with injuries after successfully fighting off a crocodile that attacked him.
Jonas Mwenya, 47, of Kepiki Village in Nsama was taking a bath in a stream when he was attacked by the reptile.
He said the reptile first attacked his leg and tried to drag him into deeper waters.
Mr Mwenya overpowered the reptile by holding onto its mouth before he managed to set himself free from the jaws of the crocodile.
Mr Mwenya said he was lucky to be alive and that at one point he was not sure he would be able to break free after his five minute battle with the reptile.
Nsama District Commissioner Panji Chilingala said he would ask the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) to kill the reptile.
