THE Lusaka magistrate’s court has ruled that a prima facie case has been established against a German director at an orphanage in Makeni who is alleged to have indecently assaulted a girl under his care.
Ronnie Jender, 37, will now have to prove in court that he did not fondle an orphan under his care in Lusaka.
Principal magistrate Kenneth Mulife said that he was satisfied that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against Jender.
“After examining the evidence before me, I am satisfied that the prosecution has established a prima facie case against the accused and I therefore put him on his defence,” Mr Mulife said.
The German has been placed on his defence for allegedly indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl at his orphanage.
Jender, a co-director at Care for Kids Orphanage in Makeni, is facing an indecent assault charge, which he allegedly committed on December 23, last year.
Jender, who is represented by Lusaka lawyer, Paul Katupisha of Milner Katolo and Company, will open his defence on March 13, this year.
Witnesses including the girl testified how Jender allegedly indecently assaulted her.
Jender’s co-director Joackim Schiffe testified that on December 24, last year, one of the girls at the orphanage told him that Jender had been going to her room to fondle her breasts and other parts of her body.
