RONALD ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba has said winning the 2014 MTN-FAZ Player-of-the-Year Award has been a result of hard work.
Kampamba won the award on Friday night after beating Zesco United duo of Nyambe Mulenga and Jackson Mwanza to walk away K25,000 richer and also got a DSTV High Definition Decoder.
He said in an interview during the awards MTN awards gala held at Moba Hotel in Kitwe that he worked hard last season to deserve the ward and thanked his former team-mates at Nkana for the help rendered.
“I am very happy to win this (award) and it has come as a result of the hard work I put in last season and I would like to thank God. Credit also goes to my former teammates at Nkana who made it possible for me to win,” Kampamba said.
Kampamba said he was now eying winning a similar award at his new Egyptian club Wadi Degla.
“I know the Egyptian league is very tough but I think I will apply myself accordingly and ensure that winning the Player-of-the-Year award does not end here. I will work hard to win this award in Egypt,” he said.
Coach-of-the-Year winner, George Lwandamina said the award had given him impetus to work harder this season.
Lwandamina, who inspired Zesco to their fourth double after claiming the 2014 league championship and the Barclays Cup, beat Power Dynamos’ Tenant Chilumba and former Zanaco coach Aggrey Chiyangi to bag K20,000 prize that came with a DSTV High Definition Decoder.
“I am happy to have won this award. I have worked so tirelessly and finally this award has come. I like competing against myself and so the only target I have as the new season opens is to defeat last year’s record, Lwandamina said.
Mwanza bagged K20,000 for finishing league top scorer having scored 15 goals while his teammate Nyambe was awarded with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president meritorious award for his outstanding performance and bagged K10,000.
More accolades followed Zesco as striker Winston Kalengo scooped the Most Disciplined player award to claim K15,000.
Nchanga Rangers’ Larry Bwalya beat teammate Patson Daka and Green Eagles’ Spencer Sautu to win the Young Player-of-the-Year and walked away with K15,000.
Other recipients were Kitwe based referee Gladys Lengwe, who beat Janny Sikazwe and Wellington Kaoma, to retain the Best Referee Award and walk away with K15,000 and a DSTV High Definition Decoder while Bruno Tembo won the Best Assistant referee award and got K10,000.
Meanwhile, Zesco were presented with the 2014 MTN-FAZ Premier League trophy and a K250,000 cheque while players and officials received gold medals while runners-up Power received K100,000 cheque and silver medals.
The MTN-FAZ league clubs were not left out of the awards list as the relegated quartet of Roan United, Indeni, Konkola Mine Police and Kabwe Warriors got K8,000 each.
Zanaco and Nkana received K50,000 and K45,000 respectively for finishing third and fourth on the log while fifth placed Napsa Stars and sixth placed Nchanga Rangers bagged K38,000 each.
Red Arrows received K18,000 with Eagles, National Assembly and Green Buffaloes pocketing K15,000, K12,000 and K10,000 respectively while Nakambala Leopards bagged K8,000.
