BRIEF-CASETHE situation in the mining sector, which has been caused by the new tax regime, needs quick but sober response to ensure a win-win situation.

None of the two parties should lord over the other by imposing decision without considering the other and, therefore, Briefcase welcomes the reported negotiations between the government and mining houses.

Reliable power supply welcome

IT is a relieving to note that the incessant load shedding for electricity has, at least in Lusaka, ended following Zesco’s increase in the power generation and distribution.

Review Co-operative Society Act

BRIEFCASE agrees with the Zambia Co-operative Federation (ZCF) on its call for a review of the current Co-operative Society Act to revive the sector in earnest.
Surely, the Act could, to a large extent, be blamed for the current dismal performance of the movement, which was once a major employer and player in the provision of goods and services.
In recent times, there has been too much concentration on agriculture at the expense of other purposes the cooperative societies are supposed to be engaged in.
