Lodge boss jailed for forgery

THE Choma Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 43-year-old manager of Mahogany Bush Lodges in Choma to two years imprisonment with hard for falsifying a receipt.
Zepher Munyumbwe, now of Richland Lodge located on Plot number F350, was facing two counts of fraudulent false accounting and theft.
On December 10, last year in Choma, Munyumbwe falsified receipt number 0109 purporting to show that Richland Lodges received K230 for accommodation.
In count two, on the same date, Munyumbwe using a Richland Lodges receipt number 0109 and stole about K22,416 cash.
The matter came up before Magistrate Mbololwa Mukela for written facts in respect of count one.
On the material day, Munyumbwe, attended to Choma Municipal (CMC) who wanted to hold a briefing at the Lodge over the recently held January 20 presidential by-elections.
Munyumbwe raised a receipt number 0109 amounting to K22, 416 which he gave to CMC but on the actual receipt which went to the Lodge, he raised a receipt of K230 bearing the same receipt number.
The top management at Richland Lodge, however, noticed the irregularity and reported the matter to Choma Central police. Investigations were launched and Munyumbwe was apprehended.
Munyumbwe was charged and arrested for falsifying a receipt, the offence, he admitted to.
In mitigation, Munyumbwe asked for leniency from the court because he was looking after his family which he left in Lusaka.
But Ms Mukela said she was sending Munyumbwe to jail so that he and other employees could learn to be honest when entrusted with responsibility by their employers.
