FASTJET Plc will pump US$15 million initial investment into its Zambian operations.
Chief executive officer Ed Winter has said, through the investment the airline is expected to create 170 employment opportunities for the local people.
Mr Winter said the initial investment of US$15 million would cover the operations in Zambia including the payment of relevant taxes, aircrafts and servicing.
Following the launch of the Dar es Salaam – Lusaka flights, the airline in 2014 announced that it had received an Air Service Permit (ASP) from the Zambian Department of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Transport.
Addressing journalists in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Winter said once the Air Operating Certificate (AOC) was granted by the Government, Fastjet would commence its domestic route.
Key domestic routes that could be initially served by Fastjet Zambia are between Lusaka, Ndola and Livingstone, making it possible for Zambians and international visitors to travel around Zambia at affordable fares.
According to Mr Winter, nearly all of the regional and international routes out of Zambia, and especially Lusaka, are serviced by non-Zambian airlines.
