THE Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) has decided to reinstate the Moono Mwila-led Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) executive committee after the organisation appealed against its dissolution.
Last week, SCZ annulled the November 22, 2014 ZLGU elections over alleged anomalies before and during the annual general meeting (AGM) held at Chainama Hills Golf Club in Lusaka.

But in a response to an appeal, SCZ chairperson, Mwamba Kalenga said the sports motherbody decided to allow the Mwila executive committe to continue running the affairs of ZLGU until after conclusion of its investigations.
Kalenga said he would soon constitute a special committee to investigate the observations highlighted by ZLGU in its appeal letter.
“As a way forward, I am in the process of constituting a special committee to look at the observations that you have highlighted in your letter of appeal. To that effect, your executive committee will continue to run the affairs of ZLGU as mandated by the elections outcome held on 22nd November, 2014, in the spirit of sports development. The council will advise you the way forward accordingly once it concludes its investigations,” Kalenga said in a letter to ZLGU secretary, Angela Banda dated February 24.
When cracking the whip on ZLGU, SCZ acting general secretary, Innocent Chalabesa said according to the sports governing body’s investigations one of the contestants, Sue McManus won the national vice-presidency when she was a suspended official at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe before the elections.
The ZLGU elections saw Mwila retained as president with McManus being retained as national vice president after going through unopposed following the withdrawal of Julie Sakala and Miliase Siame.
Chalabesa also said one of the clubs that voted in ZLGU elections was not paid up and that SCZ believed the matters discovered could have affected the outcome of the elections.
“So the SCZ has nullified those elections and we shall first call for the meeting and then strictly supervise the elections,” Chalabesa said.
However, in it’s the letter of appeal dated February 23, ZLGU stated that it did not receive any formal notification of the alleged suspension of McManus by Nkana.
Banda said nominations were received by the secretariat months before the AGM and that the ZLGU executive had no mandate to veto any candidate as such rights were the prerogative of the union’s council.
She added that the ZLGU AGM was supervised by SCZ’s Godfrey Ndunda and Emmanuel Chitembo.
