THE Lions Club of Ndola has handed over 100 mattresses worth K22,000 to the Ndola Lions School for the visually impaired in Hillcrest.
The move is aimed at mitigating the shortage of sleeping materials for the 170 pupils currently enrolled at the boarding school from pre-school to grade 11.

Lions Club of Ndola president Tejal Panchal said her organisation was committed to uplifting the lives of vulnerable people in society especially the children as they were the country’s future.
“The donation of these mattresses to this institution signifies the willingness by the Lions Club to help the vulnerable children and better their livelihood,” she said.
Lions Club International district 413 past governor Ashok Desai said the organisation regularly sourced for the funds through several ventures to improve conditions at the school that it was running in
collaboration with the Government.
Mr Desai urged the beneficiaries to guard the property jealously while emphasising that the organisation would continue to render a helping hand.
Receiving the mattresses, Ndola Lions School for the visually impaired acting deputy head teacher Kombe Mulenga said the institution was grateful for the gesture.
He appealed to the organisation and other well wishers to assist the institution procure additional sleeper material like beds as the number of pupils enrolling at the school was on the rise annually.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, grade 11 pupil, Jumbe Zulu said “We are grateful to the Lions club for this gesture as we can now say goodnight to uncomfortable nights”
