By SYLVESTER MWALE –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu was yesterday discharged from a Pretoria hospital where he underwent a successful medical procedure on Friday.
A statement released by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda yesterday said specialist doctors had certified President Lungu fit to resume duties.
Mr Chanda said the Presidency was working on arrangements for Mr Lungu’s return to Lusaka.
He said that the President had, however, been asked to return for medical review in a few weeks time.
Mr Chanda said the Zambian and South African doctors attending to the President were all satisfied with the outcome of the comprehensive medical attention.
The Zambian team has thanked their South African counterparts for the expert support rendered to the President.
President Lungu was admitted to the South African hospital on Tuesday around 22:15 hours after falling ill last Sunday during the commemoration of the International Women’s Day at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
The President was later advised by local doctors to seek specialist treatment abroad for a high-tech medical procedure to correct his Achalasia condition which could have led to his low sugar levels.
