PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu will set up a criminal and administrative inquiry to look into the shortage of fuel which is being experienced in some parts of the country.
The President made the announcement when he addressed a Cabinet meeting at State House yesterday.
President Lungu said criminal and administrative issues regarding the fuel crisis would be scrutinised during the inquiry.

Acting Chief Government spokesperson, Vincent Mwale said this when he briefed the media after the Cabinet meeting.
Mr Mwale said Mr Lungu regretted that during the transition following the death of President Michael Sata, some people conspired to fix the price of fuel at higher prices than what was obtaining on the market.
“Criminal and administrative  proceedings will take  effect accordingly,” he said.
Mr Mwale said President Lungu ordered for a short-term intervention to secure immediate supply of fuel while he was examining options including a criminal inquiry into the current fuel supply disruption.
“The President is already taking administrative action to address the current problems,” Mr Mwale said.
He said the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water Development should also examine the current fuel supply contract and terminate it if it was found with breaches.
Mr Mwale said President Lungu had warned that he was aware of schemes by some people to disrupt the supply chain of essential commodities so that they could profit from the ensuing crisis.
Government agencies have since been ordered to check and report to him on a daily basis concerning these essential commodities.
Mr Mwale also said the ship carrying crude oil has docked at Dar-es-Salaam and measures were put in place to ensure that the crude oil was urgently pumped to Indeni and more tankers would be mobilised to transport fuel to most parts of the country.
The President has since directed the ministries of Mines, Energy and Water Development and Finance to immediately make a financing plan to ensure that the fuel in Tanzania was immediately supplied.
Mr Lungu yesterday addressed a Cabinet meeting from about 10:00 hours to 13:30 hours.
This was its third sitting which deliberated on a number of issues and as a new approach as directed by the President, the media was briefed on a number of issues discussed.
