Ping pong coach earns IOC scholarship

ZAMBIA Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) national junior coach, Humphrey Kapula has been handed an Olympic scholarship by the National Olympics Committee (NOC) and is already in Budapest, Hungary for three-month training course.
He left this week for Hungary for a coaches Olympic scholarship which is funded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Kapula, who holds the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level-One coaching certificate, will be trying to obtain a Diploma in table tennis at the University of Physical Education in Budapest, Hungry.
The IOC course started on March 16 and ends on June 5 this year.
In 2014, Kapula accompanied Choolwe Hamalambo, the only table tennis player, who represented Zambian at the All-Africa Junior Table Tennis Challenge in Botswana where the Ping Pong star finished second from the 54 players at the tournament.
IOC through NOC sponsored the trip with air tickets, transport and accommodation catered for.
ZTTA patron, Haroon Ghumra has expressed gratitude to NOC for securing the scholarship for Kapula.
Ghumra described Kapula as a committed coach, saying the scholarships would help him improve his coaching skills and also enhance his technical knowledge of the sports.
“The scholarship will be of great benefit and will assist in the further development of table tennis in Zambia,” he said.
