4 in court for UPND cadre murder

FOUR Lusaka men accused of murdering a United Party for National Development (UPND) cadre, Grayzer Matapa have appeared in the Lusaka magistrate court for mention.
The four, Mwewa Yapanshi 24, Billy Semani Kansenya, 25, Moses Lungu, 31 and Maxson Phiri, appeared before principal resident magistrate Aridah Chuulu on one count of murder, while Albert Mainsa is facing one count of aiding a person to escape.
In count one, the quartet is charged with the gruesome murder of the late Mr Matapa.
It is alleged that Yapanshi, Kansenya, Lungu all drivers and Phiri a metal fabricator all from Lusaka East did murder Mr Matapa on February 23, this year in Mtendere.
In count two, Mainsa, 31, a teacher of Ng’ombe Township is facing one count of being accessory to a crime.
Mainsa on February 23, this year, is alleged to have assisted his brother Yapanshi, who to his knowledge, was guilty of murder in order to make him escape punishment.
Magistrate Chuulu has since asked Mainsa to give her more time in order to consult further on whether he could be granted bail or not.
Mainsa had applied for bail after the court read the facts of both charges but the Magistrate as she was waiting for consent from the office of the Director o Public Prosecution (DPP) for referral to High Court for trial.
The matter has since been adjourned to April 1, this year for another mention.
