THE Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Zambia has disowned one of its Pastors, Bob Sinamusanga, for his ‘unwarranted’ attacks on President Edgar Lungu.
Pastor Sinamusanga was quoted in an article which was published in the media on Tuesday as saying that President Edgar Lungu needed to stop drinking for prayers for him to work.
The Post newspaper published on March 17, this year, a story under the headline ‘Prayers for Lungu won’t work if he doesn’t stop drinking,’attributed to Wesleyan Church of Zambia Pastor Sinamusanga which discussed the health of the President.
But the Church’s Presiding bishop Alfred Kalembo said in a statement yesterday that Pastor Sinamusanga was not authorised to issue the statement and was not the spokesperson of the Church.
“The Church would also like to state that the sentiments in the article are Mr Sinamusanga’s personal opinions and do not in any way represent the opinion of the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church,” Reverend Kalembo said.
The Church regretted the injury that the article could have caused to President Lungu, the Presidency and his family.
He said the Church would take administrative remedial measures to ensure that its clergy did not misrepresent it in future.
Rev Kalembo also said the media should be professional and consult official spokespersons of various organisations before publishing misleading statements.
He said the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church was with other Christian bodies in prayer for the President’s full recovery and general well-being.
