CHIPOLOPOLO defender Aaron Katebe has been ruled out of Sunday’s international friendly match against Rwanda to be played at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka.
Coach Honour Janza will also miss the services of the Under-23 duo of midfielder Spencer Sautu and striker Patrick Ngoma, who have been ruled out of the match through injury.
Sautu and Ngoma join midfielder Bruce Musakanya, who will equally miss the tie after failing to recover from a hamstring injury that saw him miss Zambia’s 0-0 draw against Nigeria in the Congo Brazzaville 2015 All Africa Games final round first leg qualifier in Abuja.
Janza is still sweating on the arrival of the TP Mazembe trio of Chipolopolo captain Rainford Kalaba, Given Singuluma and Kabaso Chongo, who were expected to join the squad by yesterday.
Team manager Lusekelo Kamwambi said in an interview at the Heroes National Stadium after the morning training session that Katebe has been ruled out due to delays by his Zimbabwean club, FC Platinum, to release him.
“We shall just use the players that we have since we are running out of time, Katebe is out because Platinum are delaying to release him but we have players from the Under-23 who have joined camp,” he said.
Kamwambi said Musakanya has been replaced by Kabwe Warriors midfielder Paul Simpemba while Zanaco defender Salulani Phiri has replaced Katebe.
On the Mazembe players, Kamwambi said Singuluma arrived in the country on Tuesday and was likely to join the team today with Kalaba and Chongo equally expected in today.
He said the coaching bench was happy that most of the players called for camp have joined and were looking sharp in training and ready for the match.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo doctor Joseph Kabungo said Sautu and Ngoma have been excused from camp to enable them recover from the knocks ahead of the Under-23 return match against Nigeria.
Kabungo said Spencer has a hamstring while Sautu has an ankle injury adding that the two needed time to recover for the crucial game.
