FUTURE Search plans to partner with the Office of the Vice President to train street vendors in various entrepreneurship skills.
Future Search planned to embark on the programme in selected cities of the country before the end of the year.
Since inception, about 20 years ago, Future Search had trained more than 70,000 serving and retired workers in entrepreneurship skills.
Northern regional manager Mawila Fututu said in an interview that there was need to train Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) for them to graduate to formal sector.
“We have approached the Office of the Vice President looking at the interest the current Vice President Inonge Wina has in helping vendors graduate from informal to formal trading,” Mr Fututu said.
He said with knowledge, the vendors had the capacity to improve their businesses and contribute significantly to national development.
Mr Fututu said most vendors had the necessary capital to run businesses but lacked knowledge and experience on how to sustain their businesses.
The training targeted to equip the intended beneficiaries with skills and know-how on ways to find markets beyond their locality.
“We want to support the zeal by His Honour the Vice President to help those doing informal businesses so that they can graduate from the streets and start creating employment,” he said.
Future Search’s programmes had the capacity to contribute significantly to the development of the country and widen the tax base.
