By KENNEDY MUPESENI –
TOURIST arrivals at Chishimba Falls in Kasama increased to 15,702 in January this year compared to 13,669 recorded in January last year due to increasing marketing of the site.
Site manager Joseph Museba said due to extensive marketing of various tourism sites in Northern Province, tourist arrivals had steadily increased in the past two years.
“By January the number of tourists reached 15,702 local and foreign tourists compared to 13,669 recorded last year,” Mr Museba said.
He said in an interview that the waterfall area was currently grappling with lack of proper access roads and other infrastructure to make it more attractive than it was.
With access roads in place, more tourists would be visiting the site and this would guarantee revenue to state coffers.

Located, 35 Kilometres west of Kasama town, Chishimba Falls is believed to be the second largest waterfall after the Victoria Falls in Livingstone.
Mr Museba said the deplorable state of roads  at the site was hindering most tourists from visiting the site, despite an impressive increase in arrivals.
He said the site was still open for massive tourism investment.
Mr Museba, however, said no investor up to now had shown interest in the site by way of wanting to invest thus no tangible effects had been recorded so far.
The only investor currently at the site was Umuti Uupuka Limited which was running a food outlet to visitors.
The tourist attraction has more than five rapids in the stretch of more than two Kilometres.
According to 2013 statistics, a total of 12, 797 local and 882 international tourists visited the site.
