Police capBy JULIUS PHIRI –

A SEVENTY-SEVEN – YEAR- OLD villager from Chief Chinunda’s area in Chipata has died after being attacked with a hoe by his son.
Eastern Province Deputy Police chief Patrick Bili said yesterday that the murder occurred on Saturday when the Grafford Zimba went to visit his son Stanley, 51, who was reported to be sick.
Mr Bili said that Mr Zimba and his son picked a quarrel which led to him being struck with a hoe to his chest.
He said that on his way back home Zimba collapsed and was carried to his house by nearby villagers.
“He was found dead in his home the following morning,” he said. Mr Bili said that Zulu has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Eastern Province has recorded 291 road traffic accidents during the first quarter of 2015.
Mr Bili said that 36 deaths were recorded during the period with more than 200 people suffering from various injuries.
He said most of those killed in the accidents were pedestrians and motor vehicle passengers.
Five pedal cyclists were also killed in the first quarter.
He said this was the reduction in the number of cyclists from RTAs in the last quarter.
