MORRIS Malungo was yesterday elected president of the Zambia Pool Union (ZPU) after beating his only challenger Victor Musonda.
Malungo polled 12 votes against Musonda’s six to fill the ZPU presidency hat was left vacant for a year after Michelo stepped down early in 2014 due to differences within the union.
Nsalamu Musonda returned his position as vice president after going through unopposed during the elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka.
Justin Kamutali is the new treasurer taking over from Brian Sinyangwe while committee members include Anthony Moola, Aggrey Mulwey, Siwale Vinja, Abraham Mwila and Mary Mkandawire.
Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) board member Godfrey Ndunda said there was need to come up with pool clubs outside drinking places to allow children to also participate in the sport.
Ndunda urged the new executive to cooperate and be united in order for the sport to grow.
“I am urging the new executive to work together because if this is not done, the sport suffers and it will not grow,” he said.
He said Government was making strides to support all sporting activities and urged the union to work hard in finding sponsorship to develop the sport.
SCZ sports development officer Bwalya Chisanga urged the union to be more organised and hold their AGMs earlier in the coming year.
Chisenga called on the executive to amend its constitution so that it adequately caters for everyone in the sport.
