LACK of uniforms and transport for inmates is the biggest challenge facing the Prisons Service in Eastern Province it has been leant.
Eastern Province prisons regional commanding officer Paul Mwizabi Simasiku told High Court Judge Flavour Chishimba during the official opening of the Chipata High Court sessions yesterday that the province was faced with lack of uniforms for inmates and transport challenge.
He said apart from lack of transport and uniforms for inmates everything in the province was okay.
Ms Justice Chishimba promised to inform relevant authorities about the matter.
Meanwhile, Chipata’s Namseche Prison has 867 inmates followed by Petauke with 281.
Lundazi District had 252 inmates while Nyimba and Katete had 196 and 192 inmates respectively.
