ZAMBIA put up a much improved performance on Day-Two at the ongoing Africa Zone-Six Golf Challenge at the Kampala Golf Club in Uganda but still maintained fifth place.
After a less than impressive first round dogged by draws in the singles Matchplay, Zambia raised its game in the foursomes to pick up six wins from eight matches and move to 9.5 points and close the gap on leading pack.
The leader board, however, remains unchanged with hosts Uganda and defending champions South Africa tied at the top with 12.5 points followed Kenya and Zimbabwe, who are also tied on 10.5 points, with Zambia a point behind.
First up for Zambia was the pair of Gabriel Chibale and Peter Munyinya who agonisingly lost 1-up to Zimbabwe’s Pride Sembo and Doctor Maphosa.
But the pair of Boyd Kapalamoto and Sydney Wemba defeated the Malawian opponents Victor Kachepatsonga and Peter Coombes for Zambia’s first two points of the day.
The momentum was carried on when the team of Kelvin Chibuye and Denmark Mulambo added one more win for Team-Zambian when they battered Botswana’s Shane Granger and Botswana’s Walter 6-5.
With fingers crossed, the last pair of Tristan Brice and Aaron Simfukwe junior was emphatic in its game against South Africa’s Hafeni Nghinamwaami and Elias Mulombwelwa whom the defeated 2-up.
In the last day of the tournament, which is a singles Strokeplay, Zambia will be hoping to rise on the table especially that they are just a point off joined second placed Kenya and Zimbabwe.
