FIRST Republican president Kenneth Kaunda has been admitted to hospital in Lusaka for a routine medical check-up.
Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu yesterday visited Dr Kaunda at Lusaka Trust Hospital.
Dr Kaunda, who is to celebrate his 91st birthday next week on Tuesday, was admitted yesterday morning following doctors’ orders because of his earlier busy schedule.
This is according to a statement issued yesterday by senior executive officer of protocol in the office of the first Republican president, Cheswa Silwizya.
“Apart from his daily schedule at home, Dr Kaunda was a special guest to the Namibian government at the 25th Independence anniversary which coincided with the inauguration of that country’s new president, Dr Hage Geingob,” Ms Silwizya said.
She said that trip was soon followed by a three-day visit to South Africa where he attended the Champions of an AIDS free generation meeting last week.
Dr Kaunda’s family and doctors want to ensure that with his birthday coming up, the former president has fully rested and in good health.
The family assured the nation that President Kaunda’s admission was purely precautionary and that people’s prayers and concerns were appreciated.
