FORMER Lusaka District Commissioner, Ashell Kampengele yesterday appeared in a Lusaka magistrate’s court for allegedly insulting Cabinet.
Kampengele, 50, of plot number 18 Villa West, Lusaka West has since pleaded not guilty to using insulting language.
He is alleged to have on April 8, this year in Lusaka used vulgar language to Riford Sakala at Cabinet office.
Principal Resident Magistrate Kenneth Mulife allocated Kampengele’s case to Lusaka magistrate Lameck Mwale.
Kapempengele, now a farmer, told Mr Mwale after he read out the offence to him that he understood the charge but he was not guilty.
The court adjourned the case to May 22, 2015 for commencement of trial.
Kampengele through his defence lawyer from W.M. Kabimba and Company applied to be released on bail.
The State did not object to the application and he was granted bail of K10,000 in his own recognisance and told to provide two sureties who should be Lusaka residents.
Some Rainbow Party officials and Kampengele’s relatives attended court.
