ACTING President Inonge Wina has said Government wants to develop Livingstone as a true centre of tourism in Zambia.
Ms Wina has directed the Southern Province administration to work with the Tourism and Arts Ministry to move the tourism institutions from Lusaka to Livingstone.
She said the recent frequent high profile visits to Livingstone over the last few months indicate that Livingstone is becoming a tourist centre in the region and that Government wanted to make the city match its status.
Ms Wina was speaking in Livingstone yesterday on arrival at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport to officially open the Fifth Engineer’s Without Borders 2015 conference hosted by the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and Southern African Federations of Engineering Organisations (SAFEO).
“We are encouraging investors, potential visitors to always pass through Livingstone. We are very grateful that Livingstone has been peaceful and that people have been very friendly to visitors,” she said.
Ms Wina said when she was in Indonesia last week, she mentioned to that country’s vice-president that she would like to see the city of Livingstone twined with the city and Island of Bali which is a tourist centre of Indonesia.
“So you may see more activity and perhaps more visitors from Indonesia will start coming to Zambia,” Ms Wina said.
