FIRST Lady Esther Lungu has hailed her Zimbabwean counterpart, Grace Mugabe for the commendable job she is doing of taking care of orphans and vulnerable children in her country.
Ms Lungu said this after visiting Grace Mugabe Children’s village and the Alpha and Omega dairy farms, both belonging to the Zimbabwean first lady.
The two properties are situated in Mashonaland Central Province, 47 kilometres from Harare.
“This is indeed a full package, it is a two-way thing to the people of Zimbabwe, you are providing a sweet cycle by feeding the nation and providing education to the less privileged,” Ms Mugabe said.
Ms Lungu noted that Ms Mugabe was already achieving the vision of industrialisation in accordance with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) strategy through her dairy farm which has a total of 2,050 dairy cattle, producing million litres of milk and other dairy products such as yoghurt and cheese.
The farm has over 300 employers who milk about 700 cows three times a day.
Ms Lungu said she had learnt something from Ms Mugabe’s investments and would bring the vision to Zambia.
She said she would also market Grace Mugabe’s Children’s Village which had an international school to cater for children from other countries who wish to learn abroad.
Ms Mugabe told her counterpart that she emulated the idea of a school from the first lady of Equatorial Guinea who has a similar school to help the orphans and vulnerable children in that country.
“The school is mainly meant to assistant the orphans and vulnerable children but it’s for everyone who wishes to bring their children here as we are doing this to generate income for the children’s village,” Ms Mugabe said.
She, however, noted that the school was new as it was opened in 2013 and has only 83 children but had the capacity to accommodate 1,000.
The school which starts from nursery to grade seven also has four foreign children from Equatorial Guinea who were brought in by the first lady of that country.
She said plans were underway to construct a secondary school and subsequently a university.
