DOCTORS from across the globe have voted Zambia as the next host of the World Medical Association  (WMA) council meeting in 2017, making it the second country in Africa after South Africa to host the event.
The WMA council meeting is a world event that provides ethical guidance to doctors.
This year, the council was held in Oslo, Norway at which Zambia was voted to host the event.
Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) president Aaron Mujajati said in an interview that the meeting would take place in Livingstone and would attract about 600 delegates.
He said WMA provided ethical guidance to physicians through declarations, resolutions and statements.
“These declarations, resolutions and statements cover aspects of medical ethics, rights of patients, research on human subjects, abuse of drugs, family planning and pollution,” Dr Mujajati said.
He said it was such a credit to be picked to host such an event as the council meeting had a lot of strict conditions.
It was encouraging that Zambia had been selected to host the event because it affirmed the quality of medical practitioners the country has.
Dr Mujajati thanked Government for enabling the ZMA win the bid to host the council meeting.
