WEDSON Nyirenda has reportedly signed a one-year renewable contract with Mozambican side, Ferroviário da Beira and has promised to turn around the misfortunes at the struggling club.
The Notícias, Mozambique main daily, reported that Nyirenda has been given the huge task of winning both the domestic league and the Cup.
Ferroviário parted ways with their head coach Lucas Bararrijo after a spell of bad results and signed on Nyirenda. Club chairperson Valdemar Oliveira told the newspaper that Nyirenda was the frontrunner for the job.
“Nyirenda was always a frontrunner and has the backing of the board. He is the right person who can lead Ferroviário to the destination we want to be,” Oliveira said.
Nyirenda, who signed a one-year renewable contract with Green Buffaloes on January 15 this year, promised to bring back glory days at the club that is 11th on the table.
“I promise to inculcate the players with the knowledge so that the Sofala crowd can experience glory once again. Ferrovíario has a great team and are capable of going far.
“We will see what we’ll do to turn this page for the better in order for the team to re-conquer their good name in Mozambique,” said Nyirenda, who also coached Mozambican side HCB Songo.
Ferroviário are based in Sofala Province, in the central-eastern side of Mozambique, and are currently 11th on the 14-teams table with nine points from nine games. The club trails first-placed Liga Desportiva by 10 points.
Efforts to get Zambia Army public relations manager Christopher Musonda failed as he was reportedly in a meeting. Musonda on Monday, however, said he had no idea Nyirenda was out of country and had signed a contract with Ferroviário.
