A FOUR-year-old girl of Chewa area near Kasumbalesa border in Chililabombwe has been beaten to death by her step father for eating the relish (mice) the wife had prepared for him.
Timothy Chisenga, 31, hit his stepdaughter with a stick after he discovered that the infant had eaten his relish.
Copperbelt deputy Police chief Byemba Musole said the incident happened on Tuesday around 19:00 hours.
“Chisenga’s wife prepared the relish for him, but it was eaten by the young girl, after he discovered what had happened, he got annoyed and beat his stepdaughter to death,” Mr Musole said.
Mr Chisenga is in police custody pending appearance in court, while the body of the deceased was lying in Kakoso General Hospital in Chililabombwe.
Meanwhile, a suspect in an aggravated robbery case is nursing a gunshot wound at Kitwe Central Hospital after he was shot at by a police officer when he resisted arrest and used a machete to attack him.
Everisto Mwango, 35, of Kitwe’s Rescos Township was shot at in the leg when he tried to flee from the police officers who went to his house to apprehend him for stealing money and mobile phones at Kitwe’s town Centre.
The suspect was in a group of other men that stole some phones and money from members of the public.
Police apprehended the group but Mwango escaped.
Mr Musole said while on duty on May 9, this year, around 06:00 hours, police officers went to Mwango’s house to apprehend him.  Mr Musole said when police arrived at the suspect’s house, Mwango hid inside the house. He said as the Police officer conducted a search in the house, the suspect hit him with a machete and tried to escape.
