Muthiya gets automatic slot at Lombard Classic

ZAMBIA’S top golfer, Madalitso Muthiya has been exempted from playing the qualifying tournament for the Lombard Insurance Classic set for Mbabane, Swaziland next week.
golf 2Muthiya was initially supposed to play in the May 21 qualifying tournament at the Royal Swazi Sun Country Club but his impressive showing in various Sunshine Tour events this year has seen him earn an automatic slot at the R1 million rich (about K600,000) Lombard Insurance Classic.
He will participate in Swaziland as a special invite while compatriots Dayne Moore and Bruce Chanda will go through the qualifying round.
Last Sunday, Muthiya got his biggest career pay cheque of €6,500 (about K53,300) after firing three-under-par 281 to conclude his European Tour debut tied for 37 at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Championship in Domaine de Bel Ombre.
The 32-year-old Lusaka golfer last month pocketed about K30,600 after ending in the money bracket at the Mopani/Redpath Zambia Open and Zambia Sugar Open tournaments, respectively.
Former winners in Zambia Tyrone Ferreira, Doug McGuigan, Desvonde Botes, Justin Harding, Wallie Coetsee, Titch Moore, Lyle Rowe and Adilson Da Silva will participate in the Lombard Insurance Classic.
