By SUNDAY TIMES REPORTER –
NDOLA-BASED media practitioners have come together to address the falling standards of journalism through the revival of the Press Club.
The Press Club, whose interim executive was ushered in on Friday night, will spearhead various interventions and encourage adherence to journalism ethics.
The club will not stick to the tradition of only hosting eminent persons to discuss topical issues but will also encourage training and updating of skills among practitioners.
Times Printpak (Z) Limited deputy managing director Chishimba Chishimba said the revival of the Press Club would uplift the standards of journalism which had dwindled, and called for regular
interactions among media practitioners.
“The standards of journalism have really plummeted and we need to work towards uplifting the standards of journalism,” Mr Chishimba said.
He was speaking at Ndola’s Savoy Hotel on Friday when the Ndola Press Club interim committee was ushered into office.
Sun FM radio executive president Davies Kabuswe said that the press club needed to spell  a  clear mission and vision in order to attain objectives.
“Without a clear mission and vision, it would difficult for the club to meet the required results of uplifting journalism standards and adherence to ethics,” said Mr Kabuswe.
The committee comprises members from media institutions in Ndola and the corporate world to be led by Moses Kabaila Jr from Times of Zambia, Cynthia Michelo Phiri from The Post as interim vice-chairperson Sun FM’s Kausa Mbasela as secretary, to be deputised by Chishala Musonda from Zambia Daily Mail, while Ndola City Council public relations manager Roy Kuseka is treasurer.
