NGABWE District in Central Province has received K24 million for the construction of a District administration block and staff houses.
Government has since engaged four contractors following the handover of land by Chief Mukubwe and works are scheduled to begin next month.
Ngabwe District Commissioner, Melody Phiri has since urged the contractors to work expeditiously.
Ms Phiri said there was urgent need for offices and houses hence the need for the contractors to finish their work on time.
“The people of Ngabwe have waited for the construction works to begin so that they get employment so as contractors, you should ensure that construction of the buildings does not delay,” Ms Phiri said.
Central Province senior works supervisor, John Likashi disclosed that the four contractors would build a post office, a police station, district administration, civic Centre and houses.
Meanwhile, Chief Mukubwe  said the handover of the land to the contractors marked a milestone in the development of the newly created district.
He said the declaration of the area as a district had brought a lot of developmental activities to the area.
Ngabwe council chairman, Mervious Zwaoh has called on the contractors to employ local people.
Mr Zwaoh said  people in the district would not accept people from outside to go and do jobs which the local people were able to do.
Two weeks ago Special Assistant to the President for Project Implementation and Monitoring Lucky Mulusa toured the District and bemoaned the lack of development in the area.
Mr Mulusa assured the people of Ngabwe that the Government was committed to taking development to the area and that all the challenges in the area would be addressed.
