THE Kabwe Municipal Council has run out of land in the town centre for the construction of an intercity bus station.
The council has instead resorted to beseeching citizens with appropriate land, to partner the municipality in establishing a modern bus station.
Kabwe Mayor Richard Bango said the Municipality is still looking for suitable land for the construction of an intercity Bus Station.
He said the Council has no suitable space in the town Center for the construction of a bus station and is now calling on the public with space to consider partnering with the council in this venture.
“I want to take this opportunity to call on the public with land space especially in town to consider leasing out the space to the Council for the construction of an intercity Bus Station,” Mr Bango said.
Mr Bango said the council was given K2.9 million for the construction of a modern bus station and construction commenced at a site near the market within the town centre but the Local Government Ministry and Housing has since advised the council to find another space that will cater for big buses.
Mr Bango said the construction of the bus station at the current site would continue but that it would instead be used for the local buses and would house facilities such as ablution blocks and shelters.
He said the Council plans to enter into partnership with the locals in the district with land which is suitable for the construction of an intercity station as it does not have any suitable land at the moment.
