COACH Dick Ngwenya has been sent on a three weeks leave following Nakambala Leopards poor run in the MTN-FAZ Super League.
Assistant coach Humphrey Malikoni will take charge of the struggling Nakambala side currently rock bottom of the log with three points from the nine games played so far and the Mazabuka club is yet to win a match.
Club chairperson Lloyd Mwale said in an interview yesterday that Ngwenya has been given three weeks leave during which his assistant Malikoni will be in charge of the team.
Mwale, however, declined to give further details on the leave imposed on Ngwenya while club secretary Sam Mandunga said the decision was arrived at during a protracted club executive committee meeting held at the Zambia Sugar Conference room on Monday afternoon.
“I can confirm that the club executive committee unanimously resolved to give Dick Ngwenya a three weeks break after which he will resume work depending on the performance of Malikoni,” Mandunga said.
Mandunga said the committee felt that Ngwenya needed some rest to help him rejuvenate and relieve the intense pressure he went during the club’s poor run in the nine games played.
He maintained that Ngwenya was still an employee of the club and clarified that the leave was merely meant to give the coach some breathing space.
Mandunga said the leave was with immediate effect and that Ngwenya has since been verbally informed as the secretariat was in the process of writing him an official letter.
When contacted for a comment, Ngwenya referred all the queries to Mandunga saying he was too tired to say anything over what he described as mere rumours.
