NATIONAL champion Andrew Kayonde has thrown his hat into the ring and declared interest in contesting the position of treasurer at the forthcoming Chess Federation of Zambia (CFZ) election next month.
Kayonde, a four-time national chess king, said he would bring into CFZ his accounting experience and make the federation better.
He said that he was armed with rich experience in financial accounting, reporting and auditing which he would bring to the table and that this would enabling CFZ to have the most reliable and accurate financial records known among sporting disciplines in Zambia.
“I would like to declare my intention to stand as treasurer in the Chess Federation of Zambia during the forthcoming elective annual general meeting (AGM).
“Other than being the national chess champion, I am a professional chartered accountant and hold a masters degree in business administration, ZICA professional and I am a certified auditor,” he said.
Kayonde won the Zambian title early this year and this gave him his fourth national championship, having previously won in 2009, 2010 and 2014.
This announcement comes a week after Chanda Nsakanya announced that he would go for the position of Secretary.
Kayonde boasted that he raised the bar for the regional body when he served as treasurer of Lusaka Province Chess Association (LPCA) from 2012 to 2014.
“I became the first treasurer to put together a comprehensive high-level financial report and confirmed that the general assembly was right in entrusting me as its treasurer. As things stand, I can’t think of anyone better placed to effectively execute the demands of this involving role,” he said.
The position of secretary is currently being held by Ntemena Bwalya, who has opted to seek the position of vice-president where he will fight it out against Linus Katebe and Moses Kalapizya.
Eriko Nshikokola is the only one who has announced his candidature for presidency so far with Aaron Banda stating he would re-contest the tournaments director while Constance Mbatha is vying for the committee member position.
The closing date for submitting of nomination is May 30.
