THE Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) is in panic mode to raise a K42,000 deficit to send the World Cup-bound national team to South Africa for the Diamond Challenge this month.
NAZ president, Gertrude Mukuni said despite securing air tickets for the players, the association still needed the money to take care of food and other logistics for the June 16-21 tournament.
Mukuni said the association was still fighting hard to secure funds from the corporate world and meet the deficit.
“We still need K42, 000 for food and other logistics for us to go to the Diamond Challenge. We are still far from meeting this amount as we have not received anything yet,” she said.
Mukuni made a passionate appeal to the corporate world to come on board and bail out NAZ.
NAZ general secretary, Pritchard Ngoma said the South Africa netball authority had send two more air tickets to the earlier 12 players, ensuring Zambia sent 14 players to the Diamond challenge.
Ngoma said having 14 players would accord the coach a wider choice for selection for the upcoming international games.
Coach Charles Zulu said the players were working hard in training and were in good shape.
Team doctor Titus Fernando declared a clean health bill, saying the players’ fitness levels had also improved greatly.
