Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said the accident happened on Wednesday around midnight, on the Great East Road at Nyalungwe turnoff in Nyimba.
The driver has since been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court soon.
All the injured, mostly traders travelling to Lusaka, are admitted to Nyimba District Hospital.
In another incident, a man of Mtendere Township in Lusaka was electrocuted by a live cable that he wanted to jump over on a foot path.
Paul Mbulo died yesterday around 06:00 hours on a footpath between Benny Mwiinga area and Chainama grounds.
Lusaka Province Police Chief Charity Katanga said in an interview yesterday that Mr Mbulo was on his way to Chainama grounds for training when he came across a live cable that he wanted to jump over.
The cable was lying across a footpath which was near a Zesco tower.
Meanwhile, a man of Lusaka has been arrested for locking his 13-year-old niece in his house and defiling her.
The 28-year-old man of Kanyama Tonwship is alleged to have defiled his niece at his home after requesting her to help him wash the dishes.
He met the girl on her way to school within the same area and asked her to follow him to his house and help him to wash his dishes.
Ms Chanda said in a statement that the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday morning at his house by neighbours who became suspicious after the girl took long to come out.
“The incident occurred on Wednesday around 08:00 hours at the suspect’s place after requested her to go and clean the plates for him at his home but in the process locked the doors and defiled her,” Ms Chanda said.
The suspect is in police custody and will appear in court soon.
In a separate development, police are still analyzing a song done by Chama Fumba, also known as Pilato, which is alleged to have caused incidences of disorder in society while some members of the public allege that it defamed the President.
Ms Katanga told journalists yesterday that the song that was brought to the attention of the police is still being reviewed.
She said, however, that Zambia is a democratic society that allows its artistes to produce their works freely and enjoy freedom of expression.
